The EG&G instrumentation record of Operation Sandstone (1948). Edgerton, Germeshausen & Grier — the firm behind the high-speed Rapatronic cameras — documented the first microseconds of each fireball at Enewetak.
Aftermath
EG&G's Rapatronic photography, capturing exposures of ten-millionths of a second, produced the iconic images of fireballs still milliseconds old — the 'rope tricks' of vaporizing tower guy-wires that became the visual signature of the atomic age.
