Thirty-six tests in 1962. The largest atmospheric test series since Hardtack. Included the Starfish Prime high-altitude test (1.4 Mt at 400 km altitude) which created an artificial aurora visible from Hawaii and knocked out streetlights on Oahu. The last atmospheric nuclear test was conducted on November 4, 1962. Eight months later, the Limited Test Ban Treaty banned atmospheric testing forever.
Dominic was the last gasp of atmospheric testing. Its final shot in November 1962 closed an era; the following August the Limited Test Ban Treaty drove testing underground for good.
